“Things can’t go on like this” or “The publication market is broken.” These are phrases that are heard time and again in the academic world when it comes to publishing research findings. Researchers are therefore advocating for “scholarly led and owned publishing” as a way forward. With the European platform “Open Research Europe,” researchers at German research institutions now have access to a concrete and free-of-charge option for open-access publications that are backed by a rigorous peer-review process.
