The library card for our university library is free of charge for most of our users. Students and staff of the TUHH do not pay anything, nor do students of other state universities, pupils and academic staff of the Hamburg universities. Starting tomorrow, this will also be extended to trainees.

New to the library? 1. Library Card
If you want to use the University Library, either to borrow media or to reserve a workspace / small group room, you need a library card.
This card is free of charge for students of the TUHH. However, you must first apply for it on our website before you can come to the library in person to pick it up. Registration here.
You can pick up your library card after registering at the ServicePoint in the university library on Mon-Thu 9am-7pm, Fridays until 6 pm. Please bring the following with you:
- identity card or passport including confirmation of registration
- Student ID (or certificate of enrolment or confirmation of enrolment or HVV semester ticket)
A valid email address is very important for your notifications – for example for the reminder emails at the end of the loan period!
With your library card number + password you can log in to our website and view your account. There you will find an overview of your current loans and reservations. You can also extend the loan periods up to eight times if you still need the books.

If you want to borrow books from the university library in order to use them at home or on campus, you need a library card.
For students of TUHH this card is free, but you have to apply for it and come to the library personally. Within a few minutes you will receive your library card and get started.
” Apply ” means that you log on with your personal data here.
Pickup is available at the circulation counter in the university library from Monday – Thursday 9:00am – 7:00pm and Friday 9:00am – 6:00pm, if you present the following:
- Identity card or passport including resident`s registration document
- Student ID ( or enrollment or HVV ticket )
A valid email address is very important for a smooth service – e. g. for reminder emails at the end of the loan period!
