Wednesday, 16.2., reading room 1 of the library, between 7am and 4pm

Thursday, 17.2. reading room 2, also between 7am and 4pm

However, you may still use the reading rooms!

A person walks into the librarie's entrance.

Update 15.02.2022, 14:30 pm: The server move is complete. Currently, normal operations have largely resumed.

Update 15.02.2022, 12:45 pm: Unfortunately, restrictions on use continue at present. The following services are currently not available: Reservation online, lending and return, pay machine.

On Tuesday, 15th February, the University Library will not open until 12 noon.
Due to the relocation of the entire library system to a new server, lending and catalogue functions will temporarily not be available. This also applies to the reservation of individual work desks.
Since operating system of the previous servers is no longer being developed further, continued use of the current system could lead to security and supply issues with the hardware and software in the long term. Therefore, a modernisation of the system became necessary.

With the opening at noon on 15.02.2022, all services are expected to be available as usual.

Extended service hours

From Wednesday, 1.9.2021, the library’s service hours will be extended to Mon-Thu 9am-7pm and Friday 9am-6pm. During these hours, you can contact us with all questions regarding research, loans, the library account and much more.

Furthermore, the opening hours will be adjusted to Mon-Fri 9am-2pm starting 1. September. Weekend opening hours will remain as before.

It is still necessary to reserve workstations in the library. This option is currently only available to TUHH members. A medical mask must still be worn at the workstations.

Update: Since 19.7.2021, four PC-workstations have been available for external users (members of other universities, city readers). More information in our Covid FAQs.

The opening hours have also been be extended. From 19.05.2021, the library will again be open from 8am to 2pm and from 3pm to 9pm. Between 2pm and 3pm every day we will close our doors for one hour so that all surfaces can be cleaned in accordance with hygiene regulations. During this time, all patrons must clear their desks and leave the library.

Part of the new hygiene concept is that a medical mask must be worn at all times. This means that masks must also be worn at the desks during the entire stay. You can find more information about this in our ‘Supplementary House Rules’.

Unfortunately, there are currently no PCs available in the reading rooms for research or the use of e-media.
External users registered with tub. (Citizen Patrons) can normally only use our digital journals and e-books on site at the library. Since that is not possible at the moment you can receive digital documents on request (virtual walk-in service):

From April 1, the Library opens for Circulation from 2 to 8 pm

Update 31.03.2021
Due to nighttime curfew restrictions for Hamburg set today, the library will be open from 2-8 pm instead of 3-9 pm starting April 1.

Since March 2020, we have had to regularly adjust our opening hours and our on-site offerings. In doing so, we are following the regulations issued in Hamburg to contain the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. This will protect you and us. The details are specified in the so-called Eindämmungsverordnung. For example, at this time we cannot offer jobs because libraries are only allowed to be open for “lending”. This will be in effect at least until April 18. Therefore, as of April 1, we are reducing our opening hours and will not open until 2 pm instead of 9 am as before.

Opening hours from April 1, 2021:

Please observe the following rules when you visit:
