Digital media supply at the TUHH for 2025: e-books, journals, databases and more

As in previous years, the TUHH University Library will continue to provide you with the latest academic literature in 2025. The budget funds for digital media flow into three channels:

1. Licensed media packages

Decisive criteria for our license agreements are the subject-specific fit with the TUHH, the price expectations of the providers (incl. increase rates) and the factual usage by members of the TUHH. When licensing digital media, we pay particular attention to the contractually agreed terms of use: Where possible, we purchase campus licenses with unlimited access for authenticated TUHH members. We consistently reject contracts that provide for data protection concessions such as the tracking of user data. In addition, we ensure archiving and access rights after the termination of the respective contracts.

Journals

The following license agreements were continued or newly concluded for this year (see also the overview of our publishers and journals).

Under certain conditions, the costs for open access could be higher than the previous subscription costs, or essential components of the portfolio could be missing. We have therefore decided against the open access option with IEEE and have canceled the extensive “AIP journals complete” package with AIP.

Open Access Publishing Agreements without subscription

Under the following agreements, we offer TUHH members discounted conditions for scientific publishing.

In view of the predominantly critical mood at the TUHH, we refrained from participating in an extended cooperation with MDPI with greater benefits.

E-Book Packages

Our current e-book portfolio includes the following packages with the latest publications. In order to better meet your needs, we have acquired a new Springer package “Computer Science”, which is expected to include 120 titles (including the Lecture Notes in Computer Science).

Databases

Our licensed databases are listed in the Database Information System (DBIS).

2. Open Access Publishing Fund

In addition to the transformative agreements, we will also use our Publishing Fund in 2025 to support TUHH researchers who are at a young/early career stage and meet the necessary criteria.

3. Funding of infrastructure services and Diamond Open Access

The TUHH supports projects and initiatives that advocate an approach to scientific communication that is oriented towards the common good and is not profit-oriented. We continue to support the following initiatives and infrastructures or are supporting them for the first time:

  • arXiv (NEW), a worldwide open access platform on which preprints from technical and scientific fields are published,
  • DataCite, a worldwide, non-profit organization that provides DOIs for research data and all other research results,
  • DSpace, an open source software on which TUHH Open Research (TORE) is operated,
  • KOALA Mathematics and Computer Science 2024-2026, a funding consortium for six open access journals
  • DOAJ (NEW), an independent directory of quality-assured open access journals,
  • ORCID, a worldwide non-profit organization that enables scientists to maintain their identity via a persistent identifier independent of commercial platforms, and
  • Portico, a system used by libraries and publishers for the long-term archiving and availability of digital content.

Acquisition proposals or feedback?

In addition to these large packages, we were almost always able to fulfill your book requests. Only very few did not fit our acquisition profile or were no longer available on the market. We would also have liked to make some more titles available digitally, but not all publishers offer us the option of a campus license.

We welcome feedback on the offers presented as well as further suggestions at tub-erwerbungsleitung@tuhh.de.

Also, if you have an acquisition proposal, we will be happy to help you as always.
