In the library, masks are mandatory (even at reserved desks!), distance rules and the 3G rule (vaccinated, recovered, tested) apply as on the TUHH campus.

During service hours, we will be happy to help you with any questions you may have at the library’s ServicePoint. If you need assistance in researching the databases, our expert advisors will be happy to help you via video call. You can also contact us by email or telephone during our opening hours.

Access to the library

You can visit the library at any time during opening hours. Please always bring your library card with you and scan it at the entrance for contact tracking.

Without a desk reservation, you can stay in the library for 20 minutes for borrowing, returning or researching. If you wish to stay longer and use the desks or computer stations, a reservation is required.

In the library, a mask mandate (medical mask or FFP2) and the 3G rule apply for the entire stay.

Opening hours

The tub. is open in times of Corona, taking into account necessary measures. When entering the building, the library card must be shown and a medical mask must be worn. The collected data will be stored for 4 weeks for contact tracking.

From now on, our users can use the Corona Warn App to check in to the library.Checking in via the app is not a prerequisite for library use, but an additional offer from us. Find more info here.

House rules

In accordance with the current version of the Hamburg Containment Ordinance, the same 3G rule (vaccinated, recovered, tested) applies in the library as on the rest of the TUHH campus.

You can get information on our supplementary house rules concerning Covid-19 here. During your entire stay in the library, the following also applies: Failure to comply with the rules will result in a ban from the library.

Library Workstations

Workstations in the library can be reserved here. There are currently 89 tables available for TUHH members. In addition, we are offering four PC workstations for external patrons (members of other universities, city readers). Two of these workstations can also be reserved by TU members.

A medical mask must be worn at the desk at all times. Only the reserved seat is to be taken. A transfer to other free seats is only permitted by means of a new reservation.

Reserve a workstation

Loan and Return

During opening hours self-lending and return of media is possible. When entering the building, library cards must be shown and a medical mask must be worn. Requests for media from the closed stacks are possible. As soon as your requested media are available on the collection shelf, you will be notified by Email and have 7 days to borrow the media. You can also check the status of your order online in your library account. Closed Stacks requests made until 3 pm (Monday – Thursday) and until 2 pm (Friday) will be provided on the same day. Borrowed media can currently be renewed up to eight times.

Registration / Library Card

The registration takes place on site. Please fill out the registration form on our website beforehand. Then come to the ServicePoint of the library during our service hours with the following documents:

  • Identification documents (e.g. identity card/passport or residence permit)
  • Proof of higher education (matriculation certificate/student ID)

Use of licenced E-Media

Members of the TU Hamburg can access licensed e-media by searching our catalogue tub.find via VPN access or Shibboleth.

Using e-media from home

External users with a TUHH library card can only use our digital journals and e-books at the PC workstations in the library. Due to current restrictions, there are currently four places available. You can reserve these here.

Submission of dissertations

You have the following possibilities to hand in your dissertation: During service hours at the ServicePoint, by post, by internal mail or outside opening hours to the left of the library entrance by dropping it in the newspaper box (in an envelope). After service hours, you can use the white return box just to the left of the library entrance.
We will forward the routing slip to the office of the doctoral committee after checking the given guideline.

Scanner and Copier

Short-term use is possible at any time during opening hours. If you want to stay in the library for scanning for more than 20 minutes, you have to book a scanner place in our reservation system here.
