In the spirit of general contact avoidance in the current pandemic situation, the library is currently running an emergency service. As a protection for you and us, we ask for your understanding that the service point will not be manned until further notice.

If you need assistance in researching the databases, our expert advisors will be happy to help you via video call. You can also contact us by email or telephone during our opening hours.

House rules

You can get information on our supplementary house rules concerning Covid-19 here. During your entire stay in the library, the following also applies: Failure to comply with the rules will result in a ban from the library.

Library Workplaces

Starting Monday, 25 January, 2021 there will be no workplaces available to book.

Loan and Return

During opening hours self-lending and return of media is possible. When entering the building, library cards must be shown and a medical mask must be worn. Requests for media from the closed stacks are possible. As soon as your requested media are available on the collection shelf, you will be notified by Email and have 7 days to borrow the media. You can also check the status of your order online in your library account. Borrowed media can currently be renewed up to eight times.

Registration / Library Card

Please complete the registration form from home on our website. Then send us copies of the following documents:

  • Identification documents (e.g. identity card/passport or residence permit)
  • Proof of higher education (matriculation certificate/student ID)

Copies of documents by e-mail (scan) to bibliothek@tuhh.de or in paper form to the postal address:

After processing, your ID card will be sent to you by post. You will receive access data for your on-site registration immediately. Documents sent to us will be deleted after processing.

Use of licenced E-Media

Members of the TU Hamburg can access licensed e-media by searching our catalogue tub.find via VPN access or Shibboleth.

Using e-media from home

Users registered with tub. (Citizen Patrons) can normally only use our digital journals and e-books on site at the library. Since that is not possible at the moment you can receive digital documents on request (virtual walk-in service):

Interlibrary loans

The VG Wort has agreed to temporary exception regarding the electronic forwarding of copies to users. Therefore, it is temporarily (until 31.07.2021) possible to send copies of articles electronically via e-mail with a download link.

Submission of dissertations

You have the following possibilities to hand in your dissertation: By post, by internal mail or outside opening hours to the left of the library entrance by dropping it off in the newspaper box (in an envelope). During opening hours you can also use the white return box just to the left of the library entrance.
Please do not hand the dissertation to the security or library staff. We will forward the routing slip to the office of the doctoral committee after checking the given guideline. You will not receive a signature on site.

Opening hours

The tub. is open Monday to Friday from 2pm – 8pm, allowing for necessary measures in times of Corona. When entering the building, the library card must be shown and a medical mask must be worn.

Scanner and Copier

Short-term use of scanners is possible.
