#OAWeek 2024: Virtual consultation hour on predatory publishing, publishing agreements and other Open Access topics

For more than two years, the University Library (TUB) has been offering an open, virtual consultation hour on the topic of Open Access every Friday from 10:00 to 10:30 am. During the current Open Access Week 2024, you are also cordially invited to bring your questions on Friday, October 25, 2024. We will be happy to advise you on publishing in Open Access. This week is also a “special edition” of the open consultation hour. The focus will be on short inputs on the topics of the latest blog posts on Open Access Week, including CC licenses, Predatory Publishing and Open Access basics.

The TUB concept of open consultation hours on Open Access

For the TUB’s Open Access Team, the regular “Consultation Friday” has become firmly established. Every Friday, the team meets for about half an hour in an open Zoom room and offers the opportunity to meet virtually for a personal exchange in addition to e-mail, telephone and on-site advice. We address every concern individually, whether it’s about secondary publication rights, funding via the Publication Fund, or publishing agreements that benefit TUHH members. In 2024, topics such as the financing of publications, alternative publication options, publication processes and the granting of Creative Commons licenses were also the focus of the consultation.

If there are no participants in need of advice, the team uses this time for internal meetings. The “Consultation Friday” then offers the opportunity to reflect on the past working week, discuss current counseling cases and coordinate upcoming tasks.

“House calls” at TU institutes

In addition to the open “Consultation Hour Friday”, the TU Library also offers customized introductory lectures on Open Access at TU institutes and for working groups. Here we can respond individually to your questions or problems, e.g. regarding license selection, copyright or secondary publication. Please contact us with specific requests for dates and topics.
