From now on, all articles successfully submitted by TUHH researchers to the journals and transactions of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) will automatically be made Open Access.
Free publishing is possible by concluding the ACM – Read and Publish contract via the TUHH University Library (TUB). The following information is provided in the following article:
- Publication options included in the contract
- Retrospective open access status of publications
- Criteria for the conclusion of the contract
Publication options included in the contract
The contract with ACM includes all conferences, journals and magazines for which ACM manages the production and rights. These include, among others:
- Journal of the ACM
- ACM Computing Surveys
- ACM Transactions on Intelligent Systems and Technology
- ACM Transactions on Information Systems
- ACM Transactions on Internet Technology
- ACM Transactions on Mathematical Software
Conferences and journals published in collaboration with other publishers are excluded from the contract. A list of the excluded publications and further details on the agreement can be found on the ACM agreement information page.
Retrospective open access status of publications
ACM publications by TUHH researchers will be made Open Access retroactively to 01.01.2024. No Creative Commons license will be granted for these contributions. For manuscripts submitted from now on, however, you as a TUHH researcher can select a Creative Commons license to enable an even broader and freer dissemination of your research results. Further information on Creative Commons licenses can be found on the Creative Commons information pages of the University Library.
Criteria for the conclusion of the contract
The decision to conclude a contract with ACM was based on the following factors, among others:
- High usage by TUHH members:
Access statistics clearly show that the content of the ACM Digital Library is used intensively by members of the Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH). This proves the relevance and high benefit of this resource for scientific work and the academic success of the TUHH.
- Publication of research results:
The Transactions journals of the ACM are a preferred publication venue for members of the TUHH to publish research results. There are currently no indications that this will change in the future, as the ACM’s offering is unique in this form.
- Support of the Open Access goals:
ACM is pursuing the goal of providing an open, reusable platform for the international research community by 2025: “Providing a sustainably open Digital Library in 2025 to increase the visibility and accessibility of the community’s research.”
Outlook
With the ACM – Publish and Read agreement, the TUHH is taking another important step towards an open scientific culture. In addition to free access to research results, the visibility and dissemination of TUHH research results worldwide is also promoted.
The TUB will continue to strive to provide the best possible publication opportunities for TUHH researchers and to support the Open Access concept in the long term. If you have any questions about the publication process and other Open Access topics, please do not hesitate to contact the TUB Open Access team.
We will be happy to advise you on Open Access
