We understand how important it is to be able to organise your study time individually and flexibly. That is why the TUB is now open daily from 7 a.m. In Open Library mode, you can enter the library during extended opening hours with your library card and then use our workstations and study rooms. This allows us to offer you more flexibility and longer study hours – a great advantage, especially during the intensive exam period.
Extended opening hours for flexible study times
On weekdays, the ServicePoint is staffed from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and in the evenings, the library is open until 9 p.m. from Monday to Friday. On Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, we open the library all day from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. With the Open Library, we are creating longer opening hours for you.

New library card: the key to the Open Library
You will need a new library card to use the library. You can obtain this at the ServicePoint Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. If you are already registered with us, please come to the library’s ServicePoint with your library card and photo ID. Minors also need a new declaration of consent from their legal guardians.
If you are not yet registered with us, please use our registration form and then come to the ServicePoint in the library.
To ensure that you feel safe during Open Library hours, the library is partially monitored by CCTV. We naturally ensure that data is handled responsibly – you can find all information on data protection at: https://www.tub.tuhh.de/en/data-privacy/.
An important step towards a modern learning infrastructure
Together with TUHH President Prof. Andreas Timm-Giel, our library director Beate Rajski opened the doors to the Open Library on 10 November. In this way, we want to strengthen the TUB as a central place of learning and better respond to your needs – especially during periods of high study load.
In addition, we are currently examining how we can offer you even more flexibility in the future – for example, through longer opening hours in the evening.
For this to succeed, it is up to all of us:
- During Open Library hours, please use only the right-hand entrance door of the TUB.
- Check in individually at the terminal in front of the door with your own library card.
- Be considerate and observe our different learning zones: quiet work on the ground floor, silent work on the first floor, and discussion in the group study rooms.
- You can find more information under our Dos and Don’ts.
With the Open Library, we are setting an important milestone for contemporary learning and a needs-based infrastructure at the TUHH. We look forward to offering you even better conditions for learning and research in the future!
Is everything working as you would like it to? We would be delighted to receive your feedback: bibliothek@tuhh.de.
