As of today, our library catalogue not only looks slightly different, but there have also been minor changes to its functions.
Technical information
Until recently, our library catalogue ran on an older version of VuFind, a library search system. This has now been updated to a newer version. In addition, our system is now hosted by the Head Office of the GBV Common Library Network.
We hope that these changes will improve the performance and stability of the catalogue. This will simplify some processes for us and enable us to respond more quickly to new VuFind updates.
Changes to the library catalogue
The most noticeable change is the slightly redesigned layout of the catalogue. In particular, some icons and button labels have been modified.
Furthermore, on the book title detail pages, the availability information has been moved next to the book information, at least in the desktop view. In the mobile view, it is still located at the bottom.
Searching in other libraries of the network has also changed somewhat with the conversion. The results list now shows two tabs that can be used to limit the results to either our holdings (TU Hamburg) or the holdings of other GBV libraries (Other libraries). These two tabs replace the previous ‘TUHH holdings’ facet for restricting the results to our holdings.
Unfortunately, the changeover means that we have to do without a few features for the time being. These include, for example:
- The ‘Print edition’ button for articles, which led directly to the edition of the journal in which the article is contained. Currently, the ‘Go to source’ button is available as an alternative. However, this leads to the journal itself and not directly to the issue you are looking for.
- The ‘Book request’ button in the results list. Although not quite as convenient, book requests can still be submitted to us by informal e-mail or via the book request form.
In future
We believe that some of the functions described above offer added value. We are therefore working on making them available again.
As there are certainly functions that do not yet work properly or perhaps still need to be integrated, we would be very grateful for your feedback: bibliothek@tuhh.de
