New furniture and alterations

Our team has been roaming the library quite a bit recently. We’ve been looking around a lot, taking lots of measurements and having plenty of discussions. In the process, we’ve already made a few minor alterations and moved some furniture around. Over the next few days and weeks, there will be even more changes here at the library.

Why all this?

We’re updating quite a few pieces of furniture this year. Among other things, we’re planning:

  • Refurbishment of the ServicePoint: We’re moving it back a little, which will create space for new features.
  • More lockers in the entrance area and, for the first time, lockers in the upper reading room: PIN-operated locks will make them easier to use.
  • Lounge in the lower reading room: Where the collection shelf stood just a few weeks ago, an area with comfortable seating is being created.
  • New individual workstations in the upper reading room: To enable people to work in peace and quiet even more effectively, new tables and partitions have been ordered.
  • Armchairs in the upper reading room: Comfortable armchairs will be placed in various spots in the upper reading room, where people can relax after studying or working.

When will it start?

The first changes will take place from today. Some of the furniture has been delivered and is being assembled piece by piece. Work will continue tomorrow. The ServicePoint is being moved to the back of the room and some of the existing cabling is being dismantled.

How noisy will it be?

We would like to ask for your understanding, as the changes described cannot be carried out without some noise. Where possible, we will give advance notice before any particularly noisy work takes place.
