As of Thursday, 1st July 2021, we will once again be open continuously on Mondays – Fridays. In addition, the library can now also be visited on weekends. The new opening hours are as follows:

A row of workstations next to open windows. The cleaning hour Mon-Fri from 2pm-3pm is no longer necessary. Instead, there is a station in each of our two reading rooms with cleaning agent and a roll of paper for cleaning the tables independently.

It is still necessary to reserve workstations in the library. This option is currently only available to TUHH members. A medical mask must still be worn at the workstations.

Update: Since 19.7.2021, four PC-workstations have been available for external users (members of other universities, city readers). More information in our Covid FAQs.

Workplaces and extended Library Opening from May 19

Update from 25.5.: Due to the amended Containment Ordinance of 22.5.2021, proof of negative Covid-tests is no longer required for reserved desks.

From Wednesday 19.5.2021, the University Library will again offer workplaces for TUHH-members in accordance with the current containment ordinance. The desks can be booked via our reservation system as before the closure. The library beneath a blue sky

The opening hours have also been be extended. From 19.05.2021, the library will again be open from 8am to 2pm and from 3pm to 9pm. Between 2pm and 3pm every day we will close our doors for one hour so that all surfaces can be cleaned in accordance with hygiene regulations. During this time, all patrons must clear their desks and leave the library.

Part of the new hygiene concept is that a medical mask must be worn at all times. This means that masks must also be worn at the desks during the entire stay. You can find more information about this in our ‘Supplementary House Rules’.

Unfortunately, there are currently no PCs available in the reading rooms for research or the use of e-media.
External users registered with tub. (Citizen Patrons) can normally only use our digital journals and e-books on site at the library. Since that is not possible at the moment you can receive digital documents on request (virtual walk-in service):

Corona Warn App in the tub.

From now on, our users can use the Corona Warn App to check in to the library.

This Code is just an example.

This function is available after the latest update of the app. In addition to the already familiar library card scanner, you will find a QR code in the entrance area that you can scan with the Corona Warn app.

Once you have scanned the code, you will see an entry in your contact diary with your location and the times you were in the library. This entry will remain visible in your app for 14 days and will then be deleted along with your data.

Checking in via the app is not a prerequisite for library use, but an additional offer from us.

You can find more info on the app’s blog.

From April 1, the Library opens for Circulation from 2 to 8 pm

Update 31.03.2021
Due to nighttime curfew restrictions for Hamburg set today, the library will be open from 2-8 pm instead of 3-9 pm starting April 1.

Since March 2020, we have had to regularly adjust our opening hours and our on-site offerings. In doing so, we are following the regulations issued in Hamburg to contain the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. This will protect you and us. The details are specified in the so-called Eindämmungsverordnung. For example, at this time we cannot offer jobs because libraries are only allowed to be open for “lending”. This will be in effect at least until April 18. Therefore, as of April 1, we are reducing our opening hours and will not open until 2 pm instead of 9 am as before.

Opening hours from April 1, 2021:

Opening Hours Lending & Return Servicepoint Information by Phone

Please observe the following rules when you visit:

    • Scan your library card at the entrance.
    • Wearing a medical mask is mandatory.
    • Keep a distance of 1.5 meters.

For your questions and concerns we are still available from 9 am – 5 pm. Call us at 040 42878-2845 or send an e-mail to bibliothek@tuhh.de.

See you soon and stay healthy!
