Special conditions for publishing in Open Access have been agreed upon with some publishers within the framework of license agreements or memberships. In the following, we inform you about the agreements from which you can benefit as a TUHH member. Please note that you must also apply in advance to these publishers for funding through the publication fund.
AIP – Publish and Read
For the contract years 2021-2023, an Open Access transformation contract has been concluded by the TIB consortium with AIP. This will allow open access publishing in selected hybrid journals. The contract includes journals of the American Institute of Physics (AIP) as well as the following Member Societies:
- Acoustical Society of America (ASA),
- American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT),
- Science and Technology Society (AVS),
- Society of Rheology (SOR).
A limited contingent of articles is available on a first-come, first-served basis. For 2023, participating institutions have 545 publications available.
Frontiers
Based on the Institutional Agreement with Frontiers, TUHH will receive a discount of 2.5 % on the APCs from 12.12.2022.
IOP Journals – Read and Publish
A read-and-publish contract (2022-2024) was concluded by the TIB consortium. This contract provides access to over 85 journals. The publish component covers an unlimited number of articles that can be published without embargo period and under CC BY 4.0 license in 56 hybrid journals and 15 gold open access journals. All articles of the type “primary research article” (incl. “research papers”, “special issue articles”, “letters” and “review articles”) are eligible.
MDPI
The library participates in the IOAP (Institutional Open Access Program) on behalf of the TUHH:

As a member, TUHH receives a 10% discount on APCs since 1.5.2020.
PLOS
The University Library of TUHH (tub.) participates in the consortium between PLOS (Public Library of Science) and TIB Hannover. Researchers at TUHH thus have the opportunity to publish an unlimited number of articles in 17 PLOS journals at no additional cost. The open access publications are published under the CC-BY license.

Springer Nature
DEAL-Konsortium
The TUHH participates in the Germany-wide DEAL-Konsortium with the scientific publisher Springer Nature. Fees for articles in hybrid journals are paid centrally, fees for articles in genuine open access journals only upon request.
Nature journals, magazines (e.g. Scientific American, Spektrum der Wissenschaft and technical journals (e.g. ATZ, MTZ) are not included.
Nature Journals
In the context of the DEAL-Konsortiums, a new consortium agreement for access and publication was concluded for the Nature portfolio. For this, a fixed share of the payments from Germany is used to offset the Open Access position, which costs €9,500 + VAT per article. As soon as this amount is used up, the institutions themselves must provide the funding.

The OA journals Scientific Reports, Scientfic Data, Nature Communications, Communications Biology, Communication Chemistry and Communications Physics fall under the original DEAL Springer Nature contract and are therefore not affected by this contract and prices!
Wiley
The TUHH participates in the Germany-wide DEAL-Konsortium with the scientific publisher Wiley. Fees for articles in hybrid journals are paid centrally, fees for articles in genuine open access journals only upon application.
